Facts About Cannabis

What is CBD OIL?

CBD oil is derived from the cannabis plant or hemp plant. It is also known as cannabidiol.  It is the non-psychoactive component of the cannabis plant.

The medical benefits of CBD oil come from chemical compounds known as cannabinoids and terpenes, which interact with the natural cannaboids that exist within our body.  Humans have what is known as an endocannabinoid system.  This system is responsible for homeostasis also known as a balancing system. The endocannabinoid system brings balance to every other system in the body including the central nervous system, immune system, digestive system, heart tissues, endocrine, and reproductive systems. Also, since we have cannabinoid receptors throughout our bodies, it makes sense that we are built to make use of the cannabidoil within the cannabis plant if and when needed.

Current science supports the use of CBD Oil as an analgesic painkiller, anti-emetic and appetite stimulant. Research is continuing to verify additional cases of therapeutic alleviation further.

There are a variety of methods and forms available to administer CBD oil (cannabidiol).  The route of administration dictates the onset and duration of cannabidiol.

Inhalation– via smoking or vamping. Either smoke or through vaporization this is the fastest-acting method of administration. When inhaled, the active ingredients of the product pass directly into the bloodstream from the lungs. Pharmacological effects occur within 5-20 minutes of inhalation.

  • Peak effect: 15-30 minutes

  • Duration: 2-3 hours

Inhalation

Usually applied directly to the skin used as creams or lotions to treat localized pain and discomfort, delivering active ingredients to the bloodstream through the skin.

  • Peak effect: 1 hour

  • Duration: 3-4 hours

Topical

Oral administration is one of the strongest delivery methods. When ingested Cannabis is digested then metabolized by the liver. This means that more THC is converted into usable forms by the body.

  • Peak effect: 2-6 hours

  • Duration: 4-12 hours

Oral

Sublingual forms are administered directly under the tongue. This method of delivery offers a faster rate of absorption leading to a faster-acting effect. The medicine is absorbed into the blood through the mucosal membrane in the mouth.

  • Peak effect: 15 minutes

  • Duration: 6-8 hours

Sublingual

Using Your Sense of Smell When Choosing Your Cannabis

Terpenes are naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant. Terpenes  provide each plant’s distinctive scent, aroma or essence quality. Similar to the rose scent smelled amongst a bouquet of roses or the scent of vanilla within the vanilla bean.  Each strain of cannabis has a unique scent  ranging from sweet to acrid and skunky to floral. In addition to influencing aroma, terpene content, outside of the THC,  is one of the biggest differences between sativa and indica-dominant strains

Cannabinoids are characterized by their ability to act on the endocannabinoid receptors that are found throughout the body.

Cannabinoids are lipid-based neurotransmitters that bind to other cannabinoids or receptor sites within our body.

Cannabinoids belong to our endocannabinoid system and impact every other system in our body by fine-tuning each particular system.

Among other effects, cannabinoids can suppress pain and nausea while stimulating appetite, euphoria or calmness. They are also thought to interact with CBC (enhancing the effects of THC) and CBD (enhancing both THC and CBC). Understand the meaning of full spectrum:
